The Black Volta River

An Unexpected Accident

7/24/2019 – Today we went on a trip to see the hippos. We were staying at a hotel in Tamale and drove to the Black Volta River on the boarder of Ghana and Burkina Faso. On our way back, I remember playing a game with a few friends. Our van was driving through quite a few bumps. I was slightly concerned but didn’t think much of it. All of a sudden, I felt the wheels of the van leave the ground. That split second in the air felt like a lifetime. While we were floating, I realized that we were flipping since the road appeared to be upside down. I didn’t have time to react when there was a sudden smack. I asked if my friends were okay.  One friend’s foot was stuck. I feared that it was broken but I was able to remove the seat from his leg. A few of the passengers were clearly in shock of what had just occurred. I managed to have only hurt my lower back and scraped my left shin. Thank God no one was severely injured. I walked it off and then we caught a van passing by. The van took us to the nearest town. It took approximately 5 hours to get to the hospital. The doctors weren’t very thorough in their checkup of us, which made me feel uneasy. I was really scared at the moment and so were the others. Ultimately, I decided to return home in order for my back to completely heal.
