Shanghai: Food and Sightseeing Tour

Another two weeks have passed since I last wrote. Since then, a lot has happened: finished finals (yay!), visited Shanghai, and started classes again. I still can’t believe that I have already passed the halfway point of my study abroad journey. A part of me is excited that I am a month away from going home, but another part of me is sad that I have to leave this beautiful country. I hope to make the best of my last three weeks here!

Last week, I went to Shanghai for the long weekend. I took the bullet train for the first time, and it was so nice! The inside felt like I was in an airplane. It went up to 308km/hour, which is about 191mph, and it took around five hours to get from Beijing to Shanghai. Once we got to Shanghai, it was a race to do as many things as possible. I only had five days there, so I wanted to see all the attractions and try all their famous foods. Luckily for me, my best friend is also studying abroad in Shanghai, so she showed me around and took me to a lot of amazing restaurants. I felt like my vacation was composed of 50% food, and 50% sightseeing.

My favorite attraction was the Bund. It is basically the Shanghai skyline and it is absolutely beautiful! Shanghai is definitely more modern than Beijing, but that is probably because Shanghai is the business hub of China, and Beijing is more of the cultural hub. Anyways, my five days in Shanghai were definitely well spent!

Since I got back to Beijing, I started class, and explored more places to eat. I am still taking an intensive Mandarin class, but now am also taking a Contemporary Economics of China class.

Until next time!
