Welcome to Berlin

The last couple of days have been really intense for all of us here in Berlin. We just finished our first week of classes and excursions that included the German History Museum and the Jewish Museum.

Berlin is an amazing city because of all the opportunities it offers to young college students. Bars, restaurants and pubs around Kreuzberg are always full of Germans and international students visiting the city for the summer. It is really hard not to do something IMG_2694every night because of all the different places that you can go in the city.

In addition to the very active social scene of the city, Berlin is full of important landmarks that played an important role in either European or world history. We are very lucky of being close enough to the Bundestag and the Brandenburg gate so that they can be part of our daily run’s route every morning.

Trying to learn German this past week was definitely one of the highlights of the program so far. Listening to 10 northwestern students with no previous experience with German trying to speak the language brightens up everyone’s morning with a good laugh.

On Sunday we will attend the Berlin philharmonic’s last summer concert on an outdoor theater that is 40 minutes away from here. The weather has finally improved and we are back into the 70s after a couple of days with high 90s so the concert should be a perfect opportunity to enjoy a Berlin afternoon.
