MSL Open House

Northwestern Law School

A great way to learn more about the Master of Science in Law degree is to attend one of our bi-annual Open Houses. Held in the fall and spring each year, the MSL Open House is intended to provide a meaningful opportunity for prospective and admitted students to learn more about this unique degree program, to get a more concrete understanding of what it means to study at the intersection of law and STEM, and to gain insight that will allow each person to realistically imagine what it is like to be an MSL student. Good news — the spring Open House – held remotely over Zoom – is coming up soon on Saturday, March 5!

We pack a lot of programming into the half day event – including an information session conducted by MSL Program Director, Professor Leslie Oster; a panel of MSL alumni, a class visit, and an interactive discussion with current MSL students. We walk through the MSL curriculum and focus in on different program formats and the admissions process. The best part of the programming is the opportunity to hear from a variety of alums and students; by seeing how the MSL has affected their educational and career development, attendees are able to assess whether the MSL is the right program for them. (A video of the student panel from the fall Open House is available here.)

At our fall Open House, prospective students got to visit a class on Legal & Regulatory Issues in Emerging Industries, which focuses on the cannabis industry. Professor Charlie Bachtell, CEO of Cresco Labs, discussed legal, regulatory, and business considerations in the emerging cannabis industry in Illinois (and nationwide). In the upcoming Open House, attendees will get to visit a course that focuses on the intersection of regulation and technology: RegTech: Transforming the Interaction of Regulators, Regulated Enterprises, and Markets. (Hefty title!) The class is taught by Hudson Hollister, the CEO of HData, a Techstars-backed software development company that aims to transform legal and regulatory processes in the energy industry.

We’ve got a great lineup of programming scheduled for the Open House on Saturday, March 5. We hope you will join us!
