Staff Spotlight: Christi Beavers, Director of Program Development

Christi Beavers, Director of Program Development

Hello, blog readers!  My name is Christi Beavers and I have the pleasure of serving as the MSL Director of Program Development, which means I am responsible for aspects of the out-of-classroom MSL student experience. I serve as the residential program’s academic advisor, and work to make sure exams, degree progress, and all other academic needs are met. I also work closely with the MSL team, student leaders, and the Law School to ensure MSL students have ample opportunity to develop professionally and personally, and in a way that compliments their academic coursework.

I joined the MSL team after six years at Northwestern’s Kellogg School of Management, where I managed the MS in Management Studies program. Prior to that, I spent some time in Northwestern University’s Financial Operations and, before that, overseeing fraternity & sorority life at Kennesaw State University, a public university outside Atlanta, Georgia. How is that for a pivot?! The connecting thread is: I love working with students and creating rich, meaningful academic program experiences. Especially for a diverse, engaging program like the MSL!

I am originally from Maryland, where I grew-up outside of Washington D.C. and completed my bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland at College Park. I spent some of my adult years in Georgia, where I completed my Master’s in Higher Education Administration from Georgia Southern University. And, I’ve been in Chicago since 2012, with my partner and two teenaged daughters. Very recently, we opted for a more rural existence and moved to Northwest Indiana, where you can find us fishing and kayaking just about every chance we get.

Outside of work, I enjoy making stained glass art, genealogy, baking, snorkeling, carpentry, trying new restaurants, and visiting new places. I love Chicago for its never-ending list of great eats and cultural experiences. But, as for my favorite — my love of kitsch and the islands runs deep: Three Dots and a Dash is where we’ll end up when it’s my turn to pick the dinner destination!
