MSLs Make Their Mark

From energy to emergency services, entrepreneurship to AI, MSL graduates are making an impact in countless industries. This article highlights recent achievements of several MSL graduates, providing a glimpse into the various ways our alumni are using their degrees to innovate in their fields.

A unique characteristic of the MSL program is the diverse array of backgrounds that our students bring to the table and the variety of professions they go into (or continue with) after the program. Not only does the diversity of our cohorts showcase how legal education can bolster careers, but it also emphasizes how legal knowledge is becoming increasingly important to drive innovation in a range of industries.

As we celebrate accomplishments in areas such as energy entrepreneurship, technology leadership, emergency services management, sustainable business development, and artificial intelligence, MSL students and graduates are demonstrating how law school degrees can be used to make meaningful contributions in the workplace. The achievements of our MSL students and alums, several of which are highlighted below, serve as a testament to the program’s ability to shape well-rounded professionals equipped to address the complex challenges of today’s world.

Mohamed Khalafalla Ahmed, PhD

Dr. Mohamed Khalafalla Ahmed, Assistant Professor at Florida State University and Florida A&M, has been recognized as a Faculty Explorer award recipient by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Office of Technology Transitions. The award – part of the DOT’s inaugural EnergyTech University Prize Faculty Track – recognizes Ahmed’s contributions to promoting energy entrepreneurship to his students.

Becky Warren

Risk management firm Aclaimant has introduced Becky Warren as its new Senior Vice President of Data and Operations. With 20 years of experience in insurance and risk management information systems, Becky will lead Aclaimant’s Customer Experience and Data teams, focusing on process improvement and leveraging data within her organization.

Neil Misak

Neil Misak, co-founder of two-year-old REUSO, a software system provider in the food services and packaging space, celebrated some big achievements with his startup this year. REUSO launched its first software product, onboarding several notable Chicago establishments onto its platform, including Lincoln Park Zoo, World Business Chicago, and Wild Onion Brewery & Banquets. Misak’s company also took part in 1871’s Food Tech Cohort, partnered with the Shedd Aquarium on its Let’s Shedd Plastic Program, and was invited to ring the Nasdaq bell in New York City!

Kristin Weivoda

Kristin Weivoda, Chief of Emergency Services in Yolo County, California, recently published an article with Government CIO Outlook, a California-based technology magazine. Her piece on creating equitable emergency preparedness strategies across diverse communities will be featured in Government CIO Outlook’s 2024 special print edition on disaster management.

Logan Kilpatrick

Logan Kilpatrick, OpenAI’s First Developer Relations Hire, was recently featured on Redpoint AI’s podcast, Unsupervised Learning. This podcast coincided with OpenAI’s inaugural developer conference, called DevDay. During his interview, Logan discussed the future of OpenAI and its adaptability, applications for AI, debates behind custom AI models, and more. The conversation is available on YouTube, Spotify, and Apple.
