In the following article, Dan Rodriguez, the Harold Washington Professor and former dean at Northwestern University Pritzker School of Law, discusses efforts to increase access to legal services through the use of legal professionals who are not licensed lawyers. He focuses on how these “Allied Legal Professionals” (ALPs) might be educated to effectively represent clients, and proposes training in legal & regulatory process, ethics & professional responsibility, and written & oral communication.
