We recently read two related articles that, taken together, make a strong case for MSL study. One focuses on the value of breadth and cross-disciplinarity in studies, and the other focuses on new professional positions in the legal industry that require the broad range of skills one would develop in a program that emphasizes cross-disciplinary knowledge (like the MSL for example!).
Check out these two pieces:
The Business Case for Becoming a Jack-of-All-Trades, Harvard Business Review
Bring on the product managers, Canadian Lawyer
As more positions like the Product Manager position emerge, the market will need professionals who bring a diverse combination of capabilities, including:
- strong communication skills
- knowledge about the product life cycle
- the ability to build bridges across previously siloed functions
- technological expertise
- project management proficiency
- adeptness at gathering and analyzing data
The MSL curriculum is ahead of the curve in providing students with a usable and broad range of interrelated skills and knowledge. Check out the MSL curriculum.
