Chefchaouen, also known as the Blue City, is a city in the mountains of northwest Morocco which—as you must have guessed already—is washed in blue. No one really knows why it’s blue. There are multiple theories: some claim that the Jewish community painted it blue to distinguish themselves from Muslims, others claim that it was painted blue to keep the mosquitos away and to keep the city cool.
