Pre-Departure Post

As I write, I am above the Atlantic Ocean. The sky is darkening and we are entering evening. My first stop is Reykjavik, Iceland. I have five more hours until we arrive and I board my next flight to Berlin.

My hopes?

I hope that I find passion in learning once more. I am so excited to learn about a world that isn’t mine. Sometimes I think that the reason why school is frustrating is that I am reading the academia of people living in my conditions. I already know what the school to prison pipeline is and redlining and all of these things. What I don’t know is German culture and politics and what’s happening in Europe. It’s actually pretty exciting to be studying what you don’t know you don’t know and so I welcome that with wide arms.

I hope to also find community. I am an introvert who shows up as an extrovert, sometimes. At the beginning of a lot of my interactions with people, I am quiet and reserved and sometimes that makes me seem mean. I just really hope I find people who I vibe with and can do really cool things with too.

Lastly, I am also just super excited to be living on my own. Being able to budget and really cook food for myself is going to be a priority. I don’t know what to get and if everything I need will be at the store but I got this!

Wish me luck!
