I hopped off the plane at TXL, with my dreams and some serious sleep deprivation.
Welcome to the land of beer and brat, am I ready for this?
Jumped in a bus
I’m in Europe for the first time
Look to my right
There’s a street called “Hohenzollerndamm”
This is all so crazy
Every word is too lengthy
My heart’s beatin’
And I’m feelin’ kinda nervous
Merkel’s life’s got nothing on this
That’s when I learned my first German words
Du hast schoene augen
Du hast schoene augen
Du hast schoene augen
So I throw my hands up
For this global city
In the center of Europe
Holocaust memorial over there
Currywurst and Doner over there
I throw my hands up
For these great new friends
Who are as excited as me
Yeah
Let’s go to Humboldt University
Yeah
I’ve never been more ready.
I’ve met agreeable people on the street who introduce themselves to me without reserve. I’ve also been told by a worker in a souvenir shop to shut up because we were talking too loudly and laughing while looking at “I <3 Berlin” shirts. Apparently, Germans are more quiet and reserved in public spaces. This city is like any other big city, full of hot messes, emotions, dreams and ambition. I am infinitely grateful for this new adventure.
