Hey there! My name is Kali, and I’m a junior theatre major, business minor from Chicago (the Lincoln Park neighborhood, in particular)! This is me:
I have never spoken a word of German in my life, aside from what I have done in classical voice lessons (I sing, by the way—less classical now, more musical theatre, but classical foundations is where it’s at!), so I’m extraordinarily excited to go off to Berlin and learn the language!
I wanted to go on this program because, for as long as I can remember, I’ve been interested in the German language and culture. Bratwurst? Bring it on. Lederhosen? Let’s go. I think I feel pretty prepared for the experience. I’m sure that whatever may go wrong, IPD has my back. They’ve done this many times before, and I’m in good hands. I’m really excited to be thrown into Germany knowing absolutely no German aside from “Dankeschön.” I think it will be an exciting experience—full of adventure and mystery. Something I’m not comfortable with, most of the time. I’m a person who likes to make sure everything goes the right way, and all of my actions are planned to a T. I’m a little nervous, having planned almost none of this trip and not knowing the language, but I have faith that it will turn out well, and I will come out of the experience knowing that I can do it. I might never want to live in a country for nine weeks without previous study of the language again, but I’ll know I can!
