Gender Inequality in Sports

Description: Enduring the media and politics minor classes is an eye-opener as it helped me recognize that the media and politics are interlinked. I had the chance to explore further how media and politics influence each other both negatively and positively. In my presentation, I will discuss a common theme related to many women’s struggles: gender inequality in sports through the mainstream media and political frameworks. While making links and providing examples for this connection, it has made me realize the link between my major and minor, and how I can utilize my knowledge in both fields to make a difference in the media industry and the political one. I explore gender inequality through the lens of the Theory of Socialization, how children at a young age are taught indirectly and directly to form gender norms. These gender norms often make women feel inferior to me in most aspects, in particular when it comes to sports.
