Power and Globalization: The core and the periphery
This video presentation explores the relationship between power and globalization, with a focus on the core-periphery dynamics. It explains how power, in various forms such as military, economic, and cultural, influences the interconnectedness and interdependence of people, economies, and cultures across borders. The core-periphery dynamics reflect the unequal distribution of power among countries and regions, with developed and industrialized countries dominating the global economy and politics, while developing and underdeveloped countries are economically and politically marginalized.
The presentation is a culmination of four years at Northwestern and Georgetown and highlights the consequences of the core-periphery dynamics, including the perpetuation of poverty and underdevelopment in the periphery and challenges for global governance and decision-making. It concludes that addressing these challenges requires a collective effort to promote a more equitable distribution of power and resources across the globe.
