Qatar’s Soft Power Strategy: Contemporary Art
Qatar has emerged as a leading country in the Gulf and has created an international presence for itself in recent years. In addition to its power in the energy market, Qatar has sought to diversify its sources of revenue and influence by expanding into different sectors. Qatar has deliberately aimed to enhance its soft power through a variety of means. The country acted as a mediator between the US and the Taliban, consequently centering itself as an essential foreign affairs actor. It created Education City and brought over world-class universities in order to create a knowledge economy. And most interestingly, it has sought to center itself as a cultural hub through the promotion of contemporary art.
