Life as a Midshipman

Midshipmen balance a rigorous college and military schedule. The day of a typical midshipman starts early with physical training up to three times a week, followed by Naval Science classes twice a week and Naval Science Lab once a week. After fulfilling morning military duties, midshipmen join their civilian classmates in lectures, discussions, labs, review sessions, and office hours.

After classes, midshipmen may address unit responsibilies like flag duty, duty watch, or adviser meetings. They also engage in extracurriculars, including club and intramural sports, campus organizations, undergraduate research, volunteering, and fraternities or sororities.

Althrough midshipmen maintain busy schedules, they are encouraged to join NROTC competition teams like drill, color guard, and endurance teams. These teams offer opportunities to travel, compete, and engage with other midshipmen nationwide. Beyond academics, participation in these activites and other extracurriculars enhances their development as military officers by fostering leadership and providing diverse, meaningful experiences. Through these roles, midshipmen connect with a broader community and build skills essential for their future careers.
