Apply to Join

For High School Students:

The application process for the 4-year NROTC Scholarship can be started as early as January of your junior year. To start the application, visit the Official NROTC Scholarship Application page.

The application contains a section titled “College Preferences and Current Studies,” and asks for your top five college choices. In order to maximize your chances of being assigned to the Northwestern NROTC Unit, indicate Northwestern University as your first choice.

Admission to Northwestern University and Loyola University (Chicago) is a completely separate process from the NROTC scholarship application process. Students should visit the Northwestern’s Office of Undergraduate Admission Website or the Loyola University (Chicago) Admission Website for further information.

Scholarship applicants are required to complete a Department of Defense Medical Examination Review Board (DODMERB) physical exam. When your application has been completed, you will receive a post card from DODMERB instructing you to schedule a physical exam. Once you have received this post card, please contact the DODMERB National Appointment Scheduling office.

For College Students:

If you are a freshman or sophomore at either Northwestern or Loyola University (Chicago), you can still join the program as a College Programmer! This option incurs no service obligation. You can even apply for a full scholarship (with service obligations) after you join us. Historically, many motivated college programmers at Northwestern have successfully received NROTC scholarships after joining the battalion.

To join as a College Programmer, please contact the unit battalion through the number 847-491-2039 or email nrotc@northwestern.edu.
