Hi everyone,

The microwave is clean and functional again. Please make sure that all caps are properly secured (you should not be able to move/twist it once it is on the vial). Please also make sure that there is no solvent in your sample, as this causes a massive spike in pressure.

New rules have been put into place due to the shift schedule. Here they are below:

  1. All microwave vials must have the user’s initials and the date written on them – no exceptions.
  2. If an evening shift user is running a digestion/reaction overnight, they must coordinate with a morning shift user to check on the sample after. This also applies to morning shift users running reactions into the afternoon. Users should be periodically checking on their samples during their shift.
  3. The Hupp and Farha microwave managers will alternate in taking care of these sorts of incidents. As I took care of today’s incident, it will be the Hupp group manager’s responsibility next time.

One last thing – there are many old vials/samples sitting in the microwave with no names. This is confusing and a safety hazard. I will be disposing of any unclaimed samples on Friday, so please retrieve them before then.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Best,

Julia
