Immigration, Identity, and Agency: How Media Shapes Political Discourse

This project highlights my journey through the Media and Politics minor, which has reshaped my understanding of the media’s role in political discourse specifically regarding immigration and minority representation. Through six courses at Northwestern University and Georgetown University, I explored three themes that helped shape my perspective. First, I evolved from viewing media as mere entertainment to recognizing it as a powerful tool for shaping social and political narratives, analyzing films like “Under the Shadow” and “RRR” to identify subtle political messages and societal commentary. Second, I learnt about media’s crucial role in shaping perceptions of immigrant and minority communities, as well as understanding the media’s impact on community identities and cultural representation. Third, I examined how digital platforms, AI, and social media are revolutionizing political communication highlighting the importance of responsible journalism and combating misinformation.
