Media as an Instrument of Political Recognition:
Understanding the Dynamics of Power and Influence in Global Politics
In this capstone project, I explore the transformative power of media in global politics through three critical dimensions: strategic influence, identity politics, and resistance. Drawing from case studies across the Middle East, international sports, and global media platforms, I reveal how media is far more than a simple communication tool. Instead, it emerges as a sophisticated instrument of power that shapes political recognition, challenges dominant narratives, and negotiates complex cultural identities.
By examining networks like Al-Jazeera, controversial athlete representations, and resistance journalism, I demonstrate how media creates influence through credibility, reflects national identities through strategic storytelling, and provides platforms for marginalized voices. My journey through the Media & Politics minor has fundamentally reshaped my understanding of how media operates at the intersection of power, identity, and global communication.
