After ice skating at Robert Crown, carving pumpkins during the Halloween season, roasting marshmallows at Willard, and seeing the festive Christmas lights at Lincoln Park zoo, I have been able to experience very fun and memorable moments here at Northwestern. These events set up by the area council bring joy and festivity to many Northwestern students and I would like to serve the Southwest area council to bring the same joy and spirit the area council has brought to me.
With attending many events held by the Southwest area council, I know first hand how each activity and event feels from a first-person perspective. With my planning and management skills, I can organize a multitude of events that not only fit within the area council’s budget but also caters to Southwest Area residents’ recommendations of exciting events.
I hope to be elected to plan activities, especially in Chicago. Some ideas are seeing the Christmas tree lighting, visiting an aquarium, roller skating in Norris, and going to a local Evanston restaurant. I hope you consider me for the Southwest area council position.

- I am excited about the prospect of serving on the area council because, as someone who has attended and benefitted from Southwest Area Council programming, I have seen the type of positive change Area Council events can have on the community. I’ve gotten a glimpse into the elected officials’ roles and seen what the planning process for events looks like through attending meetings as a building representative. I understand the importance of listening to diverse perspectives and looking for creative and innovative ideas to engage residents. I’m confident that my ability to communicate and collaborate will help me work effectively in a team to achieve those goals. Additionally, my organizational skills and attention to detail will contribute to efficient decision-making processes, ensuring that the council operates smoothly and effectively. If elected, my primary goal is to facilitate open communication channels within the community because I believe that fostering an environment where all voices are heard is crucial for identifying and addressing the unique needs of our area. I want to make sure people have access to information about our events and making sure that the events themselves represent residents’ interests. I look forward to the opportunity to serve and contribute to the positive growth of our area. Thank you for considering my candidacy.

Hi, my name is Cindy Xue, and I’m a first year student on the pre-med track, double majoring in biology and neuroscience with a minor in music. As the current VP of Programming for South Area, I am so excited to have the opportunity to apply for the position of President for Southwest Area Council!Being part of South Area Council has been one of the highlights of my first year here at Northwestern and has allowed me to meet so many new people. Additionally, the experience of witnessing hours of hard work behind-the-scenes translate into students coming together to try new experiences and make new connections has been so rewarding. Entering my second year, I am very excited for the opportunity to continue serving on Area Council, but for a new area this year!My experience serving as South Area’s VP of Programming has been instrumental in furthering both my leadership and outreach skills. Through planning and organizing area events, creating promotional materials, and fostering a cohesive and effective team dynamic, I’ve acquired valuable experiences that I believe make me uniquely qualified for the role of Area Council President.Having navigated the intricacies and learned the ropes of Area Council myself this past year, I’m also better equipped to support and help guide incoming new members next year transition into the roles and responsibilities of Area Council.Furthermore, drawing from my past role as president of Student Council in high school, where I spearheaded meetings, communicated with administration, curated meeting agendas, and organized major school events, I am prepared to apply these skills to carrying out similar responsibilities as President of Southwest Area.Overall, I would be so excited to serve as the Southwest Area Council President and am committed to fostering a welcoming and vibrant community within Southwest Area.
