Southwest Area Goes to Broadway

Evanston isn’t the setting for many classic movies so Northwestern University students feel a special connection to Mean Girls. Maybe that is why Podculture, a Daily Northwestern podcast, did an episode about residents of the Southwest Area heading to Broadway in Chicago’s wildly popular production of the film. Tickets and transportation were generously sponsored by the area’s leadership team. They even threw in a pre-departure reception to make the evening more social. So fetch!

To encourage engagement with The Handmaid’s Tale, the 2018-19 One Book One Northwestern selection, the Southwest Area hosted events with guest faculty and staff to discuss some of the book’s themes with residents.

At the January 2018 grand reopening celebration of Willard, dignitaries like the President, Vice President of Student Affairs, and members of the Board of Trustees welcomed hundreds of guests to tour the building and see all of its amazing new features.

Willard's New Faculty-in-Residence Announced

Ben Gorvine, the Faculty-in-Residence for the Southwest Area, was appointed as the first live-in faculty member at Willard Hall. Like students, he moved into his new campus home for the fall 2019 quarter. Ben has a deep record of involvement in the residential experience, undergraduate teaching, and academic advising. The Office of the Provost and Division of Student Affairs were thrilled to welcome Ben into this new role.
