Digital_Humanities

An excellent new monograph is now out by Joanna Drucker & co. titled Digital_Humanities (and, as I hoped when I picked up the title, that underscore IS important). I can’t recommend it enough for those new to DH and those long-affiliated with it (and for the so many of us in between). The best part is that the authors have put their theory to practice and released a beautifully designed, semi-experimental book that also has an open access edition for download here: http://mitpress.mit.edu/books/digitalhumanities-0

I’m about finished with it, and if others are reading it too, maybe a NUDHL spin-off book club may be in order.

Josh — Thanks! I noticed that the design element was turned up with this book. Joanna Drucker’s influence, I suspect. She just had a show at Columbia College’s Center for Book and Paper Arts: Druckworks. Which makes me think about the continuities between books and the digital. The digital situated in the history of the book. — Michael

Drucker and a couple of the co-authors are art/design faculty, too. The authors focus on design in the digital humanities mightily in this book, something I think has for too long been neglected, so I’m happy to see it pushed to the fore (as it’s been trending, no doubt).

I have that book and Understanding Digital Humanities edited by David Berry on my office floor right now. Maybe we do need a book meeting. See you soon!
