Kelly’s Favorite Quarter at Northwestern

Name: Kelly

Major(s): Journalism

Minor(s): Asian American Studies

CFS Program: Field Studies in Civic Engagement

This past quarter has been my favorite quarter at Northwestern so far, and it’s all thanks to CFS and my internship. Not only am I learning a lot in my internship at AAAJ|C, but the weekly seminar has also informed me so much.
I’ll start off by saying that I truly believe in the organization I’m working for. Advancing Justice is a great organization full of great people who have helped me grow so much for the past few months. I’ve learned more here than I could have in a classroom. It’ also happened that this was the perfect time for me to work with a nonprofit advocacy group, with all the recent current events since the inauguration. I feel like what I do here is truly important, and I feel like I am making a difference.
In addition to the internship, I thoroughly enjoy the weekly class we have on civic engagement. All of it feels relevant because it is. The things I get to discuss with my class mates and professor once a week are the things that are affecting millions of people in the world today. Doing Chicago Field Studies is one of the best decisions I’ve made here at Northwestern.
