Bauhaus Beyond Borders: Teaching the Bauhaus in the German Curriculum

The topic Bauhaus lends itself extraordinarily well to connecting the study of the German language with cultural dimensions related to German history and politics, German heritage in the US, art, architecture, and design worldwide, and STEM disciplines. In this talk, presenters will discuss and illustrate how they teach the Bauhaus in college and high school German curricula in order to raise awareness about this groundbreaking school and powerful movement and to increase interest in architecture and art as well as German history, language, and culture, while also developing language skills.  A focus will be on the influence of the Bauhaus in Chicago, and presenters will share approaches, materials, resources, ideas, games, interactive tasks, and impulses for projects that will allow learners to become more proficient in the 21st Century Skills, as outlined by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL).Ba
