Where are you from?

Druce Lake, IL

Why did I decide to apply to NPEP?

When I arrived at prison I had big plans to use my time wisely and finish my bachelors degree. My incredibly supportive parents and best friend left no stone unturned trying to hunt down programs and funding for me only to hit dead end after dead end. After 1 ½ years of struggle, the NPEP program opened up its application process. I knew I had to give it my best shot and that decision is probably one of the best I’ve ever made.

What does being a part of NPEP mean to you?

Being a part of NPEP is truly an honor. It means that I can walk out of prison and create a real future for me and my family.

What are you most looking forward to as an NPEP student?

I look forward to finding myself and discovering passions that I didn’t know I had. This is going to sound cliché, but I look forward to figuring out what I want to be when I grow up.

What is something you would like others to know about you as a student?

I am still coming out of my shell when it comes to sharing or any form of public speaking. I’m hoping to break through these insecurities by the year’s end though.

What is a fact about yourself that others might find surprising?

Hmmm…facts about myself that others might find surprising. Let’s see, I played guitar in some very questionable rock bands in my 20s and I was a fairly talented hockey goalie in my younger years.
