Cohort: 2
Where are you from?
Chicago.
What is your favorite field of study/topic?
TBD.
What is something you would like people to know about you as a student?
I would like people to know that I’m happy to be a part of this program, and I’m going to give it my all to be successful.
What does being a part of NPEP mean to you?
It means that I am a part of an institution that produces some of the brightest minds in the world. It means that I’m destined for more than what society had in store for me, i.e. being another statistic as a young black male raised in the inner-city.
What course has had the biggest impact on you and why?
All of the courses had a big impact on me. I say that because, in all of my courses, I was able to use something I learned in other courses to better understand and explain the material.
What is your favorite book or article that you have read in your NPEP classes?
“Race Matters,” by Cornell West. This is my favorite book because it opened my eyes to be able to define attitudes and behaviors that impact our community on a level that has to be identified to recalibrate our way of thinking as a people.
What assignment (paper, project, homework) have you found the most rewarding?
In my chemistry class, I wrote a letter to my father explaining carbon dioxide. My father passed away in 2010, but we weren’t on the best of terms. In the letter, I was able to express things to him that I didn’t have the opportunity to do when he was alive, so it was very therapeutic, to say the least.
