Graduation Ceremonies
On November 15, 2023, students from NPEP’s first cohort made history as they received their bachelor’s degrees from Northwestern University inside Stateville Correctional Center in Crest Hill, Illinois.
In partnership with Oakton College, NPEP organized associate degree graduation ceremonies for Cohorts 1 and 2 at Stateville Correctional Center in 2022. We invite you to witness a significant milestone in their educational journeys and a culmination of their hard work in the links below.
Stateville Voices
In April 2023, an ensemble from the Goodman Theatre visited Stateville to perform “Stateville Voices,” a collection of more than 20 plays that NPEP students wrote. The following week, the ensemble put on a production of Stateville Voices at the Goodman Theatre for members of the NPEP community and the broader public.
Students wrote and worked on their plays during an NPEP course taught by award-winning playwright, Goodman Artistic Associate, and former Northwestern professor Rebecca Gilman.
Roundtable Series
In 2021 and 2022, NPEP hosted a series of virtual roundtable discussions spanning mass incarceration, police violence, the death penalty, and long-term sentencing. To watch recordings of those discussions, follow the link below.
