Demetrius Cunningham

Cohort: 3

Where are you from?

East Chicago, Indiana

Why did you decide to apply to NPEP?

I decide to merge formal higher learning education and informal experience. I think that is a dynamic duo. I am most excited about learning about social mechanisms, pushing my limits and learning more about myself, and meeting new people.

What does being part of NPEP mean to you?

It means being a part of a family of amazing people and educators. It’s also a window and connection to the world. Statesville is Northwestern’s canvas.

What has been your favorite NPEP reading?

Jennifer Lackey’s “Punishment and Transformation.” I love epistemology and arguing through writing. I also hope to write scholarly as I advocate for juveniles in the criminal justice system.

What is something you would like others to know about you as a student?

For every experience that I have in this program, I will write a soundtrack to describe every amazing moment.

What is a fact about yourself that others might find surprising?

I am a NASCAR fanatic. Give me 30 days of training and I would absolutely be able to drive a NASCAR.

Demetrius wrote a song, “Under the Same Sky,” for NPEP. View the song’s lyrics here
