Dedric “Champ” Moore

Cohort: 3

Where are you from?

Earth.

Why did you decide to apply to NPEP?

I knew that earning a degree from Northwestern would open doors for me and that in itself is precious. And learning from professors who really care about you as a person first is what excited me. Professor Lackey can pick up someone when they’re having a down day, and I love it.

What does being a part of NPEP mean to you?

This is way more than just a program. It is the community aspect of NPEP that means the most to me. To have people who genuinely care about you is something I haven’t felt before and it pushes me to be a better student and overcome my fears.

What has been your favorite NPEP reading?

“Navajo Restorative Justice” by Robert Yazzie. One of the things I found interesting is that the Navajos never had a prison before the West came. They leaned on a tradition that is passed down from generation to generation.

What is something you would like others to know about you as a student?

I am very eager to learn and grow as a human being.

What is a fact about yourself others might find surprising?

I can tie a knot by only using my tongue.
