Brian McClendon

Cohort: 2

Where are you from?

Chicago.

What is your favorite field of study/topic?

Biology.

What is something you would like people to know about you as a student?

I’m very interested in the biology of people and plants. Once I set my eyes on something, I aim to achieve it. I don’t like to fail at anything.

What does being a part of NPEP mean to you?

Being a part of NPEP means the world to me. It gives me an opportunity to learn a skill where I can be productive once I get out.

What course has had the biggest impact on you and why?

Well, the course that would have had the biggest impact on me is biology. I say “would have” because I didn’t get a chance to take the course.

What is your favorite book or article that you have read in your NPEP classes?

Surprisingly, it was a book in my philosophy course, Plato’s “The Last Days of Socrates.” I guess I like to debate a little but after reading Plato I wanted to read more Socrates.

What assignment (paper, project, homework) have you found the most rewarding?

Chemistry, because I had a chance to learn a little bit more about biology. I did my paper about GMOs (genetically modified organisms).
