Cohort: 4
Where are you from?
Galesburg, Illinois.
Why did you decide to apply to NPEP?
I believe that education is the key to progress; I’ve been a teacher/teacher’s aide in various ways, and there is nothing I believe in than obtaining an education. Also, how often does a person in prison have an opportunity to participate in such a prestigious program?
What does being a part of NPEP mean to you?
It means the world to me. I’ve been working tirelessly during my incarceration to educate myself, become better, and make my community better; being a part of this program substantiates, and validates, that work.
What are you most looking forward to as an NPEP student?
I love being intellectually challenged, so I am looking forward to being pushed by the classes.
What is something you would like others to know about you as a student?
I really dislike not knowing, and I will not quit until I find an answer.
What is a fact about yourself that others might find surprising?
The most surprising fact about myself that others find is that I am a practicing Muslim. My beliefs are very important to me and have really become something that defines who I am.
