Academic Support
The Sheridan Academic Support Team (SAST) and the Logan Academic Support Team (LAST) play a central role in advancing the educational mission of the Northwestern Prison Education Program (NPEP) by providing incarcerated students at Sheridan and Logan Correctional Centers with sustained and meaningful academic support. These teams offer individualized tutoring, targeted research assistance, resource coordination, and structured academic programming that not only promote intellectual growth but also foster a strong sense of academic belonging. By bridging the physical divide between our incarcerated students and the broader Northwestern community, SAST and LAST work to cultivate equitable access to rigorous, transformative educational experiences that are essential to both individual flourishing and collective progress.
Wellness
The Wellness Team of the Northwestern Prison Education Program (NPEP) is committed to supporting the holistic well-being of our students—academic, emotional, and psycho-social—within the uniquely challenging context of incarceration. Working with the cohorts at Sheridan and Logan Correctional Centers, the Wellness Team engages in sustained, intentional efforts to foster care and community. These include the development and distribution of reflective wellness materials, such as a weekly packet and a dedicated wellness library; the cultivation of community engagement and celebration opportunities, including on-campus monthly community hours for the loved ones of our students; and regular, voluntary, one-on-one check-ins, offered both in person and through written correspondence. These efforts are designed to ensure that our students’ educational journeys are sustained by a robust foundation of emotional support and interpersonal care.
