CGSA Lunar New Year Movie Night

Come celebrate the 2022 lunar New Year with CGSA!
2022 is the year of the tiger (ROAR!)

We will screen the classic New Year comedy All’s Well Ends Well (1992) in the SQ Auditorium on Tuesday, February 1st, at 6:30 pm. Baked goods and drinks will be provided. Proof of vaccination, green badge on the Symptom Tracker, or a negative result 24 hrs prior is required for everyone attending.
Masks are required unless actively eating or drinking. Fill out this form to RSVP.

All’s Well Ends Well (1992) is a romantic Chinese New Year comedy about the three Shang brothers. Eldest brother Shang Moon is a philandering businessman who treats his hideous yet hard-working wife like dirt. Middle brother Shang Foon is a disc jockey/playboy who tries to score with as many girls as possible. Youngest brother Shang So is a gay dance instructor. Moon soon gets the tables turned on him as his wife leaves to become a glamorous karaoke hostess, and Foon gets into a bizarre relationship with a fan so obsessed with movies that she constantly acts out characters on dates until he suddenly becomes temporarily mentally ill. And So is continually at odds with butch lesbian family cousin. Hilarity ensues.

Call for International Student Mentors

Moving to a new country can be difficult! Particularly knowing what resources are available and where to find them. CGSA is trying to bridge the knowledge gap by matching senior international graduate students with incoming graduate students who might need assistance/have questions. If you would like to help a peer grad navigate the ins and outs of student life in the US, please sign up! Your name and contact information will be shared with 1st years in the DGP and NUIN programs, so they can reach out to you with their questions. We’re providing a $10 Starbucks gift card for the first 15 mentees who sign up!

Transgender Day of Remembrance

Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance that takes place on November 20th to honor the memory of the transgender and gender non-conforming people who’ve lost their lives in acts of anti-transgender violence, bigotry, and discrimination. TDOR was started back in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith to honor the memory of Rita Hester who succumbed to anti-transgender violence in 1998. Unfortunately, twelve years later and now more than ever, the fight for justice continues with the goal to achieve the most basic right of all – to exist.  CGSA invites you to join us in honoring and remembering the 44 trans and gender non-conforming individuals who we have lost due to transphobic violence in 2021. We will hold a virtual vigil on Saturday, November 20th at 8 pm CST where we will together say their names and hold a moment of silence.

Student Health and Insurance Information Session

Do you have questions about how to use Student Health on the Chicago campus? Are you confused about how to read your benefits and costs for the NU Student Health Insurance Plan (NU-SHIP)? CGSA Advocacy Committee has organized a virtual info session with the director of Student Health Services and the manager of the NU-SHIP to help you navigate the healthcare provided to NU students on the Chicago campus.
