New Perspectives on Business Culture

CFS Class: Field Studies in Business Culture

Employer: Goldman Sachs

Throughout my undergraduate career I have had the opportunity to intern at a variety of different companies. However, my CFS experience has given me a new perspective. While interning at Goldman Sachs throughout the week, I am enrolled in “Business Workplace Culture”. Each class period brings something new and my classmates are always sharing insightful takeaways from their internship. The course has allowed me to develop greater insights into corporate culture and topics such as diversity, business ethics, and work life balance. It is one thing to intern and immerse yourself in a company, but another to have the opportunity to analyze and reflect on your experience weekly.

The course is unique in that we are not lectured or forced to memorize facts and figures. In fact the course has brought me to downtown Chicago to watch a play satirizing the corporate world, to Google’s downtown headquarters and to guest speakers such as Margaret Atwood and Bob Achettu. I am excited to continue learning from my classmates both in the classroom and in the greater Chicago community.
