This fall I’ve had the privilege to work with Northwestern Athletics Marketing. I ended up finding this internship on my own, but the marketing department was still super willing to work with my schedule and my CFS advisor was a great supporter throughout the whole process.
I knew from the beginning I wanted an internship in sports marketing, but this experience has far exceeded my expectations. I’ve been able to help develop marketing plans for multiple sports, create marketing materials including t-shirts and flyers, help direct green screen photo/video shoots, and participate in on-court and on-field promotions. I’ve had so much fun learning what happens behind the scenes and I can definitely see myself working in athletics marketing full time when I graduate.
By choice I work a lot of hours at Northwestern Athletics Marketing, but I haven’t had any difficulty balancing my internship with my class, Modern Workplace. The three hour class meets only once per week which has allowed me to really put a lot of time into my internship. Modern Workplace has been a great complement to my internship, creating a platform to share experiences with other students and learn about the historical developments and modern trends of the workplace, workers, and working.
Chicago Field Studies gave me the opportunity to explore a career path I wouldn’t have been able to otherwise. For me, three summer internships isn’t enough time to experiment with all of the fields I’m interested in, so being able to intern during the school year for credit has been a huge blessing.
