Building Genuine Relationships

Name: Tyler Lee

Employer: E78 Partners

As a sophomore new to the professional world, something that I was looking for was to be mentored throughout the hiring process and to be connected with professionals with a genuine interest in facilitating an intern learning environment. In my time at E78 Partners, a private equity financial advisory firm, I have been able to work directly with my boss on active deals, learning tips and tricks along the way. The best part of my internship has been the post-meeting chats I’ve had; we are able to sit down and deconstruct consequential deal calls and learn the subtle variations in sentence and question that allow the client to open up and give us valuable information. In regard to relationships, while my internship is virtual, I have been able to connect and chat with multiple members of the team, working with them on side projects and learning more about what they do outside of work. I believe that if you put in the extra time to get to know the people you are working with, you can walk away with genuine relationships formed and an overall better internship experience. I am not the same person I was in the beginning of this process, and I have the support staff of CFS, my discussion professor, and my job supervisor to thank for my growth as a person.
