The University in Wartime
In April 1917, as dire stories of casualties filtered out of war-torn Europe, and German U-boats began sinking American vessels in the North Atlantic, the United States determined that it was a nation that could no longer remain neutral. One hundred years after the U.S. entry in World War I, Northwestern University Libraries looks back at how the war shook this campus—and remembers the faculty and students who sacrificed all for American liberty.
