About
The Archivist for the Black Experience needs your help identifying people in photographs and gathering contextual information from photographs that depict Black student life at Northwestern University from the 1960s to the early 2000s.
The Northwestern University Libraries recently digitized 1,000+ photographs from the Records of Northwestern University Black Alumni Association (NUBAA) and 400 photographs of the Northwestern Community Ensemble. However, we have very little contextual information about each image. If you recognize any people, places, dates, or background information, click on a photo below to get started. Any information you can provide will contribute to the research value of these collections. This will be an ongoing project with new images added regularly. Please keep in mind that some of the images might be labeled or categorized incorrectly, that’s why we need your help!
These resources might come in handy when trying to recall names:
- Black Book & The Black Student Directory, 1972-1982
- The Black Student Handbook, 1972-2010
- The Black Student Life Publications
Enjoy the blast from the past!
