This October, Northwestern recognizes the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer community through Queer and Trans Empowerment Month. Nationally known as LGBT History Month, this annual series of programs and events aims to both educate the public on LGBTQ issues and strengthen the LGBTQ community on campus.

This school year marked the launch of the first-ever Social Justice Advocacy Fellowship. The fellowship was a two quarter program that sought to teach students how to actively and efficiently engage in advocacy on campus and in a larger context. Twenty five students from varying backgrounds participated.
During the first half of the fellowship, students met weekly to learn about and discuss a variety of themes vital to effective advocacy work, everything from creating the messages that are most important to lobbying for support.
This year, NCA is sending its largest cohort of Summer Internship Grant Program (SIGP) recipients in its 10-year history across the country and abroad with its funding. The program, which began in 2007, has seen its numbers soar over the years – expanding from 90 applicants and 10 grant recipients in 2007 to 795 applicants and approximately 400 grants recipients this year.
Over 30 departments form the Division of Student Affairs at Northwestern. Numerous organizations provide professional development opportunities for Student Affairs staff across the country. Northwestern University played a formative role in the birth of the Student Affairs profession and its professional organizations. University leaders contributed to both the initial professional gatherings and later served in leadership roles in the evolving professional associations.

These are just some of the materials that make up the Senior Art Show. The exhibition features the work of three artists – Daniel Eghdami, Isabel Ngan, and Heiwon Shin – as they explore the construction of identity and how we interact with the world around us. The exhibit is open until June 17th.
One of the best things about college is trying out new things, whether those be extracurriculars, classes, or career paths. With so many potential career options available, exploring as many as you can while at Northwestern can help you shape your future.
“I really believe that you never know what a career is going to look like until you get a firsthand look at it, experience it in a way,” Medill junior Pia Basu said. “I wanted to spend some time with a Northwestern alum who could walk me through what their career path was and some of the challenges they face at work, but also what they enjoy most about their job so I could get a sense of what would be a good fit for me.”
The month of April was designated as Earth Month, revolving around the main event on April 22, so being “green” was a big topic of conversation. Northwestern provides ample resources to the University community and works hard to make sure campus operates sustainably year-round, but it amped up the programming during Earth Month.

The health care system is nothing if not confusing. Learning to navigate the health care system on our own, many of us for the first time, can be a huge challenge. Luckily for us, Health Services has introduced a Patient Support Services program to help make sense of it all.
Director of Health Services Brian Druley lead the charge with developing this unique program. Druley’s vision centered on one thing: integrating student learning into the health services process. To accomplish this goal, the department instituted Patient Advocacy Coordinators at both the Evanston and Chicago campuses.
Northwestern University Dance Marathon 2017 celebrated a groundbreaking year of inclusivity and education efforts, helping support students in fundraising efforts and providing educational opportunities around this year’s beneficiary.
