Melissa Foster, Faculty-in-Residence

Melissa is an educator, voice specialist, theatre artist, researcher, speaker, and Faculty-in-Residence in the Northeast Area. As a voice teacher, she specializes in musical theatre, pop styles, the history and performance of hip-hop, and opera/musical theatre crossover. Her scholarly book, The Scenario: Hip-Hop History and Performance Techniques for Musical Theatre, examines the pathway into hip-hop performance with historical and cultural awareness, vocal health, and authenticity. Among other pursuits beyond campus, Melissa is the rap and R&B coach for Rock the Audition, as well as a resident vocal consultant for the Lyric Opera of Chicago. On campus, she provides vital service as a faculty representative on the Community Safety Advisory Board and panelist within the University Hearing and Appeals System (UHAS).

Melanie pursued her Bachelor’s degree in business marketing and management from St Ambrose University in Davenport, IA. There she found her passion for working with students. Melanie’s work is centered in advocating for students and cultivating an inclusive and diverse environment. In her career thus far, Melanie worked as a Hall Director and Assistant Director of Residence Life at Lakeland University before moving on to Oregon State University as a Resident Director. This past year she has worked with the Evanston community and really appreciates the care and pride people have for this community.

Melanie is the second oldest of 7 kids and from Chicago. She enjoys reading mystery books, listening to paranormal and true crime podcasts, and spending time with her family.

Kaleb is originally from a small town called Grover, NC. Kaleb earned his Bachelor of Art in Music with a concentration in Voice at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and a Master of Education, Counselor Education Program Emphasis: Student Affairs at Clemson University. Before arriving at Northwestern Kaleb worked as a Graduate Community Director in Clemson Home. Kaleb’s professional interests include DEI, Student Leadership and Development and personal and mental health. When Kaleb is not working, he enjoys spending time with his friends and family, baking and cooking, going to see in person opera’s and getting to travel both near and far to get new experiences and different viewpoints of the world. Kaleb is super excited to be joining the Residential Community and Support team and to work with the amazing students and staff at Northwestern University.
