What's happening in the Northeast Area?
Northwestern welcomes new Faculty-in-Residence
Years after completing his own undergraduate degree, Aaron Shaw, Associate Professor of Communication Studies and Sociology, found himself moving back into a residence hall–this time with his own family, plus a mission to create a welcoming community for Northwestern students as a Faculty-in-Residence (FIR).
Introductions to the Area Councils
Area Councils are student-led groups that strengthen residential life at Northwestern by planning events, fostering community, and offering leadership opportunities across the four campus areas. Now in their fourth year, they continue to grow as a tradition—hosting everything from pumpkin patches to Chicago Bulls outings while helping students build skills through the Northwestern Leadership Framework. Renovations to Modernize Bobb-McCulloch and 1835 Hinman Residence Halls
Northwestern has announced plans to renovate Bobb-McCulloch Hall and 1835 Hinman, creating enhanced residential experiences in the core of both north and south campus.
“The renovation project is an exciting endeavor, especially as it ties to stewardship, student belonging and well-being,” Residential Services Director of Operations and Services Jenny Douglas said. “We’re reimagining what these residence halls could be while emphasizing more accessible design, opportunities for engagement and enhancements to overall infrastructure.”
