Welcome

The RTG grant, Dynamics: Classical, Modern, and Quantum, in the Northwestern Mathematics Department supports a plethora of activities in order to expose young researchers to dynamical systems in the broad sense. Our summer thematic schools, research workshops, and undergraduate research experiences enhance training across the US.

Our aim is to increase the strength of research in the field of dynamics

Our aim is to increase the strength of research in the field of dynamics, both at Northwestern and across the US. This Research Training Group carries out research in the field of dynamics (a vibrant field, originating with the work of Poincare in celestial mechanics), that describes the time-evolution of mechanical systems and abstract models of such systems. This major grant award will also support graduate students, postdocs and many research training activities in the Math Department.

We place a strong emphasis on expanding opportunities in dynamics

We place a strong emphasis on training a broad cohort of researchers in dynamical systems, resulting in a stronger, more diverse scientific workforce. We include vertically integrated mentoring in all of our programs.  Improved training in dynamics will lead to greater U.S competitiveness in this internationally visible field, and public lectures lead to broader dissemination of the goals and successes of dynamics research.

Our Principal Investigators

Our Principal Investigators are NU Math faculty members Bryna Kra, Nir Avni, Aaron Brown, and Jared Wunsch. The specialties of the participating faculty cover a wide range of dynamical fields and interact with numerous other areas of mathematics including number theory, combinatorics, partial differential equations, quantum mechanics, group theory, and representation theory.
