CFS Concentration: Business Field Studies

I’m currently working for Hyde Park Angels, a member-led organization that invests in early-stage companies throughout the Midwest. I’ve really enjoyed my experience so far, and am grateful that I found this opportunity through the Chicago Field Studies program.

My supervisor, also a Northwestern Chicago Field Studies alum, has been absolutely awesome in helping me kick-start my professional career. He’s been a terrific adviser and has done a really great job in structuring the internship program to meet all the Chicago Field Studies program expectations. One of the most rewarding aspects of my internship is that I have had a lot of autonomy over the work I do, and I have been able to see the direct impact of my projects on the organization’s operations.

Moreover, my supervisor and our superstar managing director have gone above and beyond their normal duties to make sure that I am getting the most meaningful experience possible from this opportunity. They’ve involved me in all aspects of the organization, which extend far beyond my primary operational role. I’ve learned a tremendous amount about entrepreneurship, venture capitalism, and the layout of the Chicago-land business world. The degree of real-world exposure from my Chicago Field Studies experience is definitely one of the key components that distinguish it from normal coursework. Special thanks to Karen Allen, the rest of the CFS department, the CFS alumni network, and my supervisor and MD who have all made this a great experience!
