If 2020 has taught us anything, it’s the importance of flexibility. Working in an entirely remote environment is an experience that I will not soon forget, and this in conjunction with the CFS program further helped demonstrate to me the importance of flexibility in my daily life as well as the entirety of my professional career. HBR Consulting has been a longstanding CFS partner but the nature of work and communication has been drastically changed and it was clear everyone was still adapting and trying to make the best of a not ideal situation. Technical errors, miscommunication, and the awkwardness of not actually getting to meet a single coworker in person were abundant. Despite, and potentially as a result of this, I thoroughly enjoyed my entire experience. Internships are about learning and being thrust into this situation pushed me to grow as I had to face each day with a certain level of flexibility I was not accustomed to. On a more macro level, through CFS guest lecturers and conversations I had with those at my firm, I realized the importance of flexibility across your entire career. What consistently surprised me with guests was the large amount of movement they exhibited moving to new jobs every couple of years. This challenged my preconceived notion of a lack of movement in the job market and showed me that this kind of change is not something to fear but embrace, with all the guest lecturers describing the ability to try new things as being incredibly important to them and the highlight of their careers.
