Year: Sophomore
Majors: Economics, Statistics
CFS Program: Business Field Studies
Employer: HBR Consulting
This summer I interned at HBR Consulting, a mid-size consulting company whose major clients come from the legal industry. I chose this internship because I want to learn more about consulting and work in a relatively larger office setting to know more people.
I have been working with both business intelligence and law department consulting team, and I like the rotation program within HBR which gets us a chance to be involved in two different practice groups. The work itself between teams differs a lot. For business intelligence, I worked across a number of clients to develop software solutions for budgeting and records management of these law firms. But for the other team, the project is more like that of traditional management consulting firms. I also learned a lot by talking with the senior consultants I have worked for and my co-interns, and I do feel that culture is an important part for the company.
For the CFS class, I took business field studies which aligns with my career interest. I like the discussion-based setting and the topics are worth thinking for me. It’s a nice addition to my internship. Since I live around campus, I would like to get this chance to get engaged with the Northwestern community on a weekday evening. More importantly, I think CFS class gives me a great platform to talk with my peers and share our internship experiences.
Overall, this internship has given me a great opportunity to get engaged with consultants’ daily work, while the CFS class gives me some time to take a step back and reflect on what I have done through the internship.
