Graduate Office of Financial Aid The Graduate School (TGS) has separate and distinct funding models for doctoral and master’s programs. TGS and its graduate programs offer a wide array of financial support. Funding is available from annually-allocated award funds, instruction, endowed fellowships, foundations and other private support, as well as federal research and training grants.
myHR The myHR Self Service Portal is your interactive employment hub, allowing you to review and manage your information at Northwestern. Here, PhD students can view pay stubs.
Student Financial Services Student Financial Services helps students navigate questions concerning student accounts, billing and payments, financial aid and student loans. It is the central hub of student financial information and transactions.

All students:

  • If you receive a fellowship or scholarship and your pay stub does not have tax withheld, you may still be liable for taxes at the end of the fiscal year.
  • When you file your tax returns, keep a signed copy of all returns and schedules.
  • Use the 1040-ES, Estimated Tax for Individuals form (found on the IRS website) to estimate amount of tax you may owe.
  • Review Publication 970 – Tax Benefits for Higher Education (found on the IRS website) to determine if you would be eligible for a Lifetime Learning Credit.
  • International students must submit a copy of their award letter or notice they have received concerning their financial award with their tax forms.
