This site is particularly good for facts, figures, charts comparing endowment levels, salary surveys for faculty members, etc.

Guidestar
Search information on the programs and finances of 1.7 million American charities and nonprofit organizations. In February 2019, Guidestar began partnering with Foundation Center to form Candid, whose stated mission is to find out where nonprofit funding “comes from, where it goes, and why it matters.”
IRS Tax Exempt Organization Search
Use the US Internal Revenue Service (IRS)’s Tax Exempt Organization Search tool to confirm tax-exempt status of an organization, view copies of tax return documents, etc. Search by organization name or Employer Identification Number (EIN).
Matching Gift Program Data (Penn)
Enter a company name, and the database will return matching gift information, including the company’s match min and max, match ratio, eligible employees, and contact information. Hosted/maintained by the University of Pennsylvania.
Million Dollar List
A compilation of publicly-announced charitable gifts of $1 million or more from across the United States since 2000, put together by the Indiana University Lilly Family School of Philanthropy and updated on an ongoing basis. Search the data by donor, recipient, location, and more.
Network for Good
This site (formerly helping.org) is a great resource for nonprofits in recruiting donors and volunteers via the Internet.
Nonprofit Explorer
Research tax-exempt organizations using ProPublica’s database, offering summary data for nonprofit tax returns and full Form 990 documents in both PDF and digital formats. Also shows the nonprofit with the highest revenue (FY2016) in each state and US territory.
