The Postpartum Pain Experience

The Project

The Project

The Postpartum Pain Experience project was created as a supplement to Navigating New Motherhood study in order to better understand the postpartum pain experience among low-income people who have undergone cesarean delivery. The Yee lab will conduct in-depth qualitative interviews with 50 people during postpartum hospitalizations and two to four weeks after delivery. Differences in postpartum pain experiences will be evaluated by maternal race/ ethnicity.

Through gathering qualitative data from people’s personal experiences, this study hopes to target health disparities in pain management among those who identify as a racial or ethnic minority. Understanding the postpartum pain experience will inform future implementation studies by providing an essential missing piece: individual voices and perspectives.
