Metabolomic Signatures associated with Adverse Pregnancy Outcomes and Social Determinants of Health (MASH)

Overview

The Project

The Project

In this longitudinal cohort of 225 pregnant individuals followed from early pregnancy through 12 weeks postpartum, we will study the association of social determinants of health with adverse pregnancy outcomes through evaluation of metabolomic signatures (e.g. profiles of metabolism and metabolic markers) in pregnant persons.

Specifically, we will identify metabolomic signatures associated with psychosocial stress and spontaneous preterm birth, hypertensive disorders of pregnancy, fetal growth restriction, intrauterine fetal demise, and inappropriate gestational weight gain.

MASH may help identify medically and socially complex individuals either at high risk of developing these conditions in their first pregnancy, or at high risk of a recurrent adverse pregnancy outcome in a subsequent pregnancy.
